Chevy Spark And Sonic First To Announce Siri’s Eyes-Free Capability [Report]
Blog GM Authority posted today that General Motors cars, the Chevrolet Spark and Sonic, would be among the first to integrate with Apple’s promised eyes-free feature announcced at WWDC this past week.
The Spark and the Sonic already have GM’s own MyLink infotainment system that can connect with smartphones, so it makes sense that these models would be the first forays into the Apple-branded Siri system. MyLink already lets drivers use their smartphone’s bluetooth and internet connection to access hands-free navigation apps, make and receive phone calls, and even use apps like Pandora, Stitcher and the like.
What GM gets out of this deal is a better voice command system, as MyLink only responds to a limited number of commands, according to GM Authority, who also report that while no date has been released, their source believes there will be more details in the next 12 months, for what that’s worth.
Bottom line here is that car makers seem to be all too happy to bring the most popular smartphone into the comfort of their dashboard systems. Seems like Apple has things well in hand, right?
